PARENTAL OVERVIEW OF HSRC SWIM TEAM

HISTORY

HSRC is one of the original four Gwinnett County Swim League Teams, starting competition in 1972.  We have always had a reputation for outstanding family swimming for children of all ages and abilities.  Our swim team is a fun and team experience.  Typically, the swim team has between 120 and 150 swimmers.  We cannot function without parental involvement and volunteering for the tasks surrounding the Swim Team.  Annually, the league determines division and schedule for 6 swimming meets (3 home and 3 away).  All effort is made to keep meets as close to teams as possible.

At the end of the swim season, the top 50-75 swimmers in the county in each event (Freestyle, Breastroke, Butterfly, Backstroke with a multitude of distances and combinations) compete in the Gwinnett County Swim League Championships usually held at a pool around the Atlanta area.

At registration, we usually have the HSRC Swim Team swimsuits on display for ordering.  A team swimsuit is NOT mandatory.  We strive to keep the suit costs as low as possible and use the suits for at least two years.

Additionally, T-shirts with HSRC Swim Team are also for sale at registration as well as throughout the summer.

PRACTICE

Practices usually begin in late May are held after school until school breaks for Summer.  Then, morning practices (before the pool opens daily) are held Monday thru Friday.  The practice schedule will be posted on the Hanarry web site.

The length of practices vary for age group.  The “6-under” practices are usually 30-45 minutes with individual time spent with our Junior Coaches.  Older age groups practice for an hour.  Practices focus on learning and perfecting strokes, building endurance, improving speed and working on special skills (relays, turns, etc).
