A tribute to 2008 4th of
July (thanks to our armed forces past, present and future!):
An Ode To Melon Royalty
by anonymous

They gathered 'round on Independence
Day
in mounted anticipation
Enjoying their lunches and stopping
in
at the food and the beverage
stations

Then the melon boys with pride
walked in
to present to the melon king
the melons from which he would have
to choose
to be tossed in the champions ring

With a towel and and some grease on
the diving board
and his head quite formally dressed
the crowd grew quiet and the silence
roared
as the melon there he blessed

Then with a toss into the middle
from his knees from total respect
The first melon splashed into the
pool
as they gathered around the deck

First came the queen quite readily
found
as with power and speed and grace
She swam and controlled her
coronating melon
and tossed it into it's place

The tension mounted, the older boys
gathered
in hopes of becoming young men
for they knew of the pride and
stature earned
if the melon crown they'd win

Then with the word go the battle was
on
But not long did they stay in the
pool
for the king from way back proved that he still had it
And for no-one he'd play the fool

Oh somewhere in this hallowed land
the sun is shining bright
And somewhere men and women are
crowned in dreams which are theirs in the night
But in this little hamlet, where only the finest of finest win
Lori Warren stands as our Melon
Queen, and Gary's the KIng again.
Long Live the King!
